We’ve all seen this illusion. Do you see an old woman or a young woman in the picture to the left? Can you see both? Do you tend to see one more clearly than the other? The truth is that both women are depicted in the picture. What you see depends on your perspective.
This weekend at Taconic we have over 350 guests. 350 guests on Thanksgiving weekend! That’s an awesome blessing to have.
But…
- We thought that they were bringing 220 until about 3 days ago
- 350 is just about capacity for us and all the stakes go way up when we’re running this close to capacity
- There is a definite language barrier. Well over half of our guests this weekend speak Spanish only. Communication can be a challenge.
So, it’s tempting to look at a group this large coming on a weekend when so many are enjoying time off at home watching football on television as an inconvenience; that this group has “ruined my plans for a restful weekend.”
But it depends on the perspective. What I’ve chosen to do and what I’m stressing to the Taconic CREW is that this beautiful, magnificent crowd is a BLESSING! When Jesus multiplied Peter’s catch, his nets began to break and his boat began to sink!
I’ve been around camps and conference centers enough to know that this is a time of year when the calendar really starts to quiet down and every single guest can make a huge difference in the bottom line. I would much rather have the inconveniences caused by a big group than the opposite problem of trying to figure out which bills I can pay and which I can’t.
What’s your perspective today? Remember, it’s your perspective that frames your attitudes. Your attitudes shape your thoughts. Your thoughts form your actions and your actions define your destiny. But it all starts with how you choose to look at the challenges in your world today.
I need this reminder every day. I am generally a positive person, but as I press into my calling I have more run ins with things that both challenge and tempt me to lose momentum. Scrubbing I meet can be seen as God sculpting me. Thanks for the reminder Michael.
Spell correct did something there. Scrubbing was meant to be obstacles….go figure.
