The Tiger Brand

Tigerarmsup717When you see the picture to the left or hear the name Tiger
Woods what do you think of? Golf, great golf, gifted golf, dominating
golf…right? Me too. Nike has done a text book job (and spared no expense) of
branding young Mr. Woods.

But if you saw last night’s 60 Minutes interview with Tiger
by Ed Bradley you know that Tiger is working now to re-shape his brand.

Tiger is has just opened the first of many learning centers.
This one just happened to be opening in Anaheim,
CA. Tiger said that the satisfaction he feels from helping these kids is far
more fulfilling to him than any golf shot ever could be.

It was kind of funny. Bradley shook is head and said, “Wait
a minute. You said that helping these kids is more fulfilling than golf? Golf is
what makes you millions!”

(Drum roll please) Then Tiger says, “Golf is just a vehicle.
Golf is what I do…but it’s definitely not who I am.” Now there’s a young man
who is going to go places. I’ll side with Tiger’s dad Earl and say that when
all is said and done, Tiger’s place in this world (read: DESTINY) will far out
reach his golfing success.
