The passion that drives you…

Kristin, a friend I work with, pointed me to an on-line
article by Margaret Feinberg. The article is entitled “Passion: What Makes You
Fly Inside?”
It’s a great read and one that hopefully will inspire the passion
that drives you.

I’ve been learning a lot lately about the importance of the
NOW of God. The fact is that so much is stolen from us when we spend so much
time and emotional energy either regretting the past or worrying about the
future. NOW gets stolen from us. Countless people have been unable to see the
destiny in their lives because they were so focused on the future. And I agree
100%. I mean…yeah…I’ve seen “It’s A Wonderful Life.”

But after reading Ms. Feinberg’s article something else
comes to mind. Passion. It really doesn’t take much passion to live in the NOW.
It doesn’t take a whole lot of passion to focus on today and the things that
God is doing right now. Don’t get me wrong…I’m not saying that living in the
NOW is easy. It does take endurance, focus, and commitment…but not passion.

I’m not sure how others would describe me but I think I’d
describe myself as a passionate person. I’ve said before in this blog that I
seem to have this passion in me that won’t let me rest until I see what is over
the hill or around the bend. My passion drives me around the corner. My passion
makes it difficult to just sit and be patient in the place where God has me.
I’m a pioneer and not a settler. These things do not come easy.

On the other hand, passion can be rash. Passion can breed
discontent. Passion can drive you away from faithfulness and steadfastness and
diligence. I can’t remember the chapter and verse right now but Proverbs even
says that passion can be rottenness in your bones.

So, that’s the tension for me. I will continue to be
passionate about the dream and destiny in my life and not give in to the
temptation to settle for less. But I can’t allow that passion for change lead
me to forsake the things that God has rightly put in my life—some for now…some
forever. I will appreciate the time and place where I find myself right
now…today. But my passion will drive me to the possibilities and promise of
tomorrow.

What about you?
