It happens all the time. We’re presented with an opportunity or a choice or a chance and we hesitate. We cover our hesitation with “study” or “prayer.” But the fact is we hesitate because don’t want to take the step. Our hesitation turns into procrastination and before we know it the opportunity slips away.
The window closes.
Our indecision because of fear or laziness or lack of discipline or lack of…whatever has caused us to miss a step. We haven’t moved and our attraction for the status quo becomes stronger. Why don’t we act? What keeps us from taking the chance and moving things forward?
Most of the time the mistake of inaction is far worse than the mistake of action.
My dad used to say that “the sin of o-mission is worse than the sin of co-mission.”
But Mark Twain said it like this…
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the one’s you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
I think I would’ve loved to have a long conversation with Mr. Twain. It would appear that we share a common outlook on life.
Are you at that point of decision right now? Take a long look ahead…10 years, 20 or 30 years ahead. Look at that decision now from the perspective of the future.
Go for it. Never regret not taking the action.
