The first few chapters of the book of Joshua in the Old Testament have to be some of the most encouraging reading in the whole Bible to me. They are full of hope, full of new beginnings and full of God’s love and care for His people.
I love how it starts out in verse 2 of chapter 1. “Moses, my servant is dead.” Whoa. (Sounds like the way Dickens begins “A Christmas Carol.“)
Boom.
Just like that God tells the people and Joshua in particular, “Dude, you know the guy who’s been larger than life and making all the decisions and doing all those crazy miracles and lobbying on your behalf in my presence all these years…yeah him…the guy with the long beard? Yeah, he’s dead.”
In other words, it’s time to turn the page.
And the next sentence in that verse packs another punch, “Therefore the time has come for you to lead these people.”
Not only is it time for the people to turn the page, God is telling them that He’s turning the page as well.
It’s time.
Often times before we can enter into the Promised Land God has for each of us, there are things we need to let go of; to say good-bye to. We have to realize that holding on is no way to move forward. We have to realize it’s time to turn the page.
It’s time to bury the past in order to give birth to the future.
What are you clinging today to that keeps you from moving forward? What ghost of the past continues to haunt you? What old memory are you wearing yourself out trying to bring to new life?
Let it go.
There are things we hold on to that keep us from taking the next step; dead-end relationships, jobs that are going nowhere, “baggage” we continue to carry, even the crap we keep in our garage thinking that some day…
It’s time.
Don’t wait any longer. Quit holding on to the things that hold you back.
Make today the day you turned the page and stepped into the new thing God has for you.
i’m going to miss you a lot! you were a great spiritual impact in my life and i pray that God will bless you greatly!
