I just learned that some good friends from my camping days are going to be the recepients of an ABC Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Paul and Cyndy Teas, the founders of Camp Barnabas (Purdy, Mo.) was picked by the popular ABC show to get some brand new facilities. Starting last Wednesday and running through
August 24, about 2,000 workers—not to mention camera and production
crews—will descend on the camp (which is for children with disabilities and
chronic illnesses) and rebuild Paul and Cyndy’s home, plus
erect other “surprise” buildings at the camp. As is the show’s practice, Paul
and Cyndy were whisked away with their family for a distant vacation so the
makeover will be a total surprise to them upon their return. The show will air
on ABC sometime in the next six weeks. As more information becomes available,
including the airing date, it will be posted on the camp’s website at www.campbarnabas.org.
This absolutely couldn’t happen to a better couple. Paul and Cyndy have committed their lives to providing a positive summer camping experience to kids with disabilities who otherwise would never have the chance to "just be normal" for week.
Of course you already know what I think of the program.
can’t wait to see it. it’s so exciting for the kids & the camp! whoohoo!
My husband is one of the heavy equipment operators on this makeover. I have not seen him this excited about doing a job in a long time. It’s ‘for the kids’ that gets to him every time. Thanks for the opprotunity to be a part of it all.
Mike that is so cool! I can’t wait to watch. Please keep us posted on the dates.
We got to help in this project by building the timberframe trusses on the house and building fronts. We are blessed beyond belief for getting to work with others on this “mission trip”! It’s all about the campers and the camp!
This makeover sure sounds better than rebuilding the wealthy’s veranda! Can’t wait to hear more about it and am hoping for pics. Thanks for sharing, Mike.
