Louis C.K. has a great bit about how spoiled we can get. We forget what a miracle a simple smart phone is. We complain because a picture is taking so long to upload on our Facebook page. He says, “Can you give it a second? It’s going to space! Can you give it a second to get back from space? Is the speed of light too slow for you?”
I suppose it’s true. As humans we can become spoiled. We get impatient with the stuff that only a few years ago would’ve been completely impossible.
I hate, for instance, the self-checkout at the grocery because it’s always asking me to take something out of the “sack area” and re-scan it. But think about it…this machine is able to total my purchases and take my money and give me change (or process my credit card) all without human interaction.
Pretty incredible when you think about it.
There are times for me and I’m sure for you too (I’ve seen you on the street screaming at your iPhone because it’s taking so long) when we just need to take a step back and be grateful for what we have.
Are you grateful?
I want the last words I say on this planet to be “thank you.” I’m thankful for life. I’m thankful for community. I’m thankful for God’s provision…for food and shelter. For OXYGEN!
When we live life from a perspective of thankfulness we are a much more pleasant person to be around. It may have been a tough day. But it was a day that you got to live. You had the opportunity to contribute, to influence, to serve, to help, to encourage, to play a part in the human effort.
We should never take our lives for granted. All we have, we’ve received from a benevolent God who watches over us and provides the things we need. Even data phones that frustrate us at times.
Live each moment grateful.
