Denny Crane nails it

Boston_legal_1I don’t usually watch Boston Legal but I last week on a trip
around the horn (changing channels) I came across the closing scene, the two
war weary courtroom lawyers having a scotch and cigar on the company veranda
overlooking the city lights.

Denny Crane, the senior partner played by William Shatner
looks at his younger partner and asks, “I like being me. Do you like being
you?”

What a question! I never thought a sleazy lawyer could make
me sit up and think! Let me pose the question to you. Do you like being you? If
not, why not? What do you need to do to change to make yourself more likeable?
This is critical. Jesus said that we are to love our neighbors as we love
ourselves (Luke 10:25-28). In fact, He said this was one of the most important
commandments of all.

If you are having a tough time loving your neighbor, chances
are you are having a tough time really loving yourself. There are plenty of
great reasons to love you—your uniqueness, your talents, your freckles, your
great laugh or the way you eat peas. Regardless, you are worth loving…most of
all by YOU.

Honestly, there have been times in my life when I have not
loved being me. But right now I’d have to say I love the journey I’m on. I love
the people I’m in relationship with and I love the call I have on my life.

I like being me. Do you like being you?
