My mom (heretofore known as Dr. Mom) received an honorary doctorate degree in counseling ministry yesterday (on Mother's Day) from Freedom Bible College in NW Arkansas. The degree was awarded for her years of ministry at Shepherd's Fold Ranch and the years since SFR mentoring women from all over the state. Read the Tulsa World story here.
Dr. Mom gets honorary degree
What a great recognition to a great woman who has spent a lifetime making a difference in the lives of others. I believe the honorary degree actually serves a two-fold purpose. First is recognition of a life's work spent in helping others. Second is a stamp of approval and endorsement for her work going forward.
None of us know what doors this degree may open for her. Dr. Mom will continue to live each day according to her destiny boldly leading while teaching and training those who follow in her wake. The degree won't change that. But to have the degree…who knows what that might lead to.
Special thanks go to Mike and Glenda Munson at Freedom Bible College and Seminary for being willing and open to the possibility of an honoray degree. Also thanks to Kelly, Sally and Clay who worked so hard to make the special day possible.
Finally, thanks to my mom. A wonderful example to follow, living life with dignity, class and an unending sense of adventure.
