My uncle Jimmy (Sellers) was a coach. I don't mean to say that's what he did for a living (although that's what he did) but what I mean to say is that he was a coach. It's who he was.
He managed the club pool for many years in Tulsa. Over that time he taught literally thousands of kids to swim. He used to tell the story of the little guy who, at his very first lesson, was too scared to even enter the water. He caused a huge commotion and the mom was ready to give up. Jimmy told her that everything would be okay and that she could leave her son with him.
When mom returned an hour later she was astonished. Her son was splashing in the water, laughing and playing and going underwater and even making beginner strokes in the water. She asked the boy what happened. How did he do it? The boy simply said, "Coach makes you brave."
We all need coaches in our lives. We need that extra push to do what we won't do on our own. We need some one to kick our tails, to hold us up, to encourage us and to make us do the hard and scary thing.
Who is your coach? Who do you have in your life who will hold you accountable to be all you can be?
That's a hard call to make. And once you take that step (putting yourself in the hands of another) there's no easy way out. When eonfronted with the need of a coach we kick and scream and cause a commotion because we don't want anyone messing with us…but we know it's true. We need someone in our lives to help us reach our goals.
Are you brave enough to make that call (or send that email) today?
We need you at your best. And a coach will help you get there.
